Today you can be anybody you want to be and have any job you want to have. We have numerous females in political office, multiple minorities in high ranking jobs, gays in the military and most barriers have been broken down. That said there are still jobs that are known as male jobs and female jobs.

You tell me what sex fills out these jobs the majority of the time: bank teller … registered nurse … airline flight attendant … super market cashier … teacher … receptionist. If you said female you are correct. On the other side of the coin we have: doctor … bank manager … fast order cook … dentist … truck driver … auto mechanic. Yes, these are normally male jobs.

I’m not saying there isn’t a crossover and yes you will find multiple female doctors and male nurses, plenty of male teachers and even a female truck driver or two but we still have a lot of stereotypes in our society. There are a few jobs that have blended the sexes quite well such as: hair dressers, police, lawyers and food servers and that is a step in the right direction.

In 1920 women achieved the right to vote. That’s less than 100 years ago and as the saying goes,  ‘they’ve come a long way baby”! The job market still isn’t 100% corrected but just look at the last few years … we’ve had a black two-term President and a female who just barely lost the last presidential election … “the times they are a changin”!
