Okay, so Black Friday and Cyber Monday are over, Christmas shopping is in full swing and you are still deciding what to get for a few people. I just might have the perfect, and very inexpensive idea for you, especially if you have a family member or friend who loves music of all kinds and also likes history.
Now most of you know me as the editor and reviewer of adult DVDs and doing features for NightMoves and AAN, which I have been doing for more than 25 years. But in addition to all my many years in the adult industry, I am also a published author with an award winning book out. It is a book that has absolutely nothing to do with the adult industry in any way.
I began writing this book back in 2012 and had it more than half finished by late 2014. Unfortunately a “Widow Maker” heart attack came along on Dec. 3, 2014 and put a stop to a lot of things for me, but only for a very short time. One of the things I was now determined to finish was that book. A year later, almost to the day, the book was published and made available for sale on Amazon.
It is titled “When Swing Was King”. It is a retrospective look at the Big Band/Swing era and the post depression and WW II years (1935-1947) and how important the music was not only for the time but the future. In addition there are a lot of historical points in the book that blend together with the music of the time. There are over 100 photos in the book along with some very interesting “trivia” type references as well. For example what great 50’sTV comedy star once played saxophone for the Claude Thornhill orchestra? There is also a chapter on how the big bands had a lot to do with the emergence of rock and roll. It is chock full of all kinds of info regarding that time period and the music. For someone who loves music and history this is a perfect gift to give them.
I am very proud of the book and the award and I hope that you will check it out and consider it as a Christmas gift for someone you know who would enjoy it. The best part is that the book is less than $15 and will be shipped right away. You can get it by going to Amazon.com, BarnesandNoble.com and Booksamillion.com Just type in the book title and then order it, I will be eternally grateful for your support.
If all goes well, my second book “And the Beat Goes On” will be out in the fall of 2018. This is a follow up and takes in the entire decade of the 50’s and the early days of rock and roll. In the meantime please get hold of “When Swing Was King” and have yourselves a very Merry Christmas!
Art Koch, National Features & DVD Editor, NightMoves Magazine and AAN
