Porn parodies have been a part of the adult film scene for years with some memorable ones from the past like “Edward Penishands”, “Miami Spice”, “Nurses of the 407th” , “The Ribald Tales of Canterbury”and “Cara Loft: Womb Raider”. But it was in 2007 that the parody genre really took off with adult porn lovers thanks to X-Play and director Will Ryder with their XXX version of the Brady Bunch with “Not the Brady’s XXX”. One of TV’s all time popular shows, having an X rated version come out was pure gold to the adult film industry. Ryder went all out getting performers who looked the part, having sets that looked like the Brady set, using the same show opening and changing the music just enough to avoid legal problems. To say it was a major hit would be an understatement given all the awards it would go on to win.
That also began Ryder and a few others to create more parodies with Ryder leading the way with his follow up Brady’s and dozens of others like “Not Married with Children XXX”, “Bewitched XXX”, “Happy Days XXX”, “Laverne and Shirley XXX”, “Charlie’s Angels XXX”. He would also conquer not only old TV shows, but films as well. He hit it big with parodies of “Rocky, “The Wizard of Oz”, “Grease” and more with these films always winning a variety of awards from AVN, XRCO, NightMoves and others. Hustler was another company that jumped on the parody band wagon with a variety of parodies like “The Golden Girls”, “Terminator”, Star Trek” , “Avatar” and of course the “Nailin Palin” series with Lisa Ann playing the former Alaska governor. Today Ryder is still at it with his 2016 smash “Not Traci Lords XXX ’80s Superstars Reborn”. While Ryder may have been the one to get the parody ball rolling back in 2007, he was not the only one to jump into the parody arena as several companies including Extreme Comixxx with their parody of “The Lone Ranger” and others saw the popularity and jumped in and come out with different parodies. Then Axel Braun came along and he would elevate Vivid’s Film’s position in porn with super hero parodies. There was Captain America, Superman, Spiderman, Thor and many others from Braun that set a new major trend in the parody genre.
Braun moved over to Wicked Pictures and it didn’t take long before there was the Wicked Comix and Wicked Fairytales parodies being done. This time Braun went even bigger with his super heroes Batman, Superman, Spiderman, Barbarella, Supergirl and the latest one that has been, like his other multi award winners, “Suicide Squad XXX” and others. When came to the fairytale line he scored big with Peter Pan, Snow White, Cinderella and others taking his parodies to another level production and talent wise.
While Ryder and Braun have certainly the leaders in the parody field, they are by no means the only ones who have created great parodies over the past ten years. There is Brad Armstrong, Lee Roy Myers, James Avalon, Joanna Angel, Bree Mills, Jim Powers and others that have lent their creative talents to this genre and continue to put out a variety of parodies that cover everything from the movies to old TV shows and current ones as well. Just look up these folks names and you will be amazed by some of the parodies they have done.
Is the parody genre as popular now as it was during its strongest run? Of course not, everything changes over time, but I firmly believe that the XXX parody genre is here to stay. As long as there are memorable TV shows and Hollywood films that are the perfect match for an adult parody, the creative forces and companies will keep on making them. So, if you are one of the many who love these parodies, don’t worry they will still be coming, maybe not as often, but when they do come out they will be worth the wait. Fact is there will be a couple coming out before the year ends that you will not want to miss. I am sure that 2018 will bring us a new batch of parodies thanks to the creative minds of Axel Braun, Will Ryder, Brad Armstrong, Lee Roy Myers and all the others who have made this extremely fun and entertaining genre stand up very well over the past ten years.
One final note: Having reviewed and critiqued most all of these parodies over the years, I have my personal favorites. In a future feature I will list my Top 5 movie parodies, Top 5 TV show parodies, Top 5 super hero parodies and Top 5 assorted parodies.
