After the USA’s men team’s amazing victory in the sport of Curling and Jessie Diggins’ gold medal in Ladies cross-country skiing, there are only three sports that we have never won a gold medal. The Luge, Ski Jumping and Biathlon are the three! Ok … you have four years everybody so start practicing now if you want to make history !!
Did you notice how the men’s Hockey competition had very little buzz and many games were played to empty seats? That’s what you get when you take out the world’s best players as the National Hockey League did not stop their season and send players to the games.
That said the women’s Hockey competition was amazing as Team USA defeated Team Canada in an overtime classic. Did you know the ladies practiced here in Tampa Bay (Wesley Chapel) all summer long? They became Tampa’s team and I was shocked all the local news outlets didn’t make a big, big thing out of it!
Norway broke its own Winter Olympic record by taking home 38 medals (13 gold) in this year’s games. A nation of only 5-million crushed all huge countries like USA, Russia, China and Germany. They rule in the sports of cross-country skiing, biathlon, ski jumping, Alpine skiing and speed skating. All I can say is bring on track & field, gymnastics and other Summer games where America shines!
Ester Ledecka from the Czech Republic is amazing! She became the first woman and only third person to win two gold medals in different sports at the same Olympics. Ledecka took home the gold in Alpine skiing’s Super-G race and in snowboarding’s parallel giant slalom. How cool is that???
This year there was something new at the Olympics. In the history of the games there was never a bobsled team form the entire continent of Africa! That changed when four ladies from Nigeria decided to enter a sled. The four all ran track here in the USA but were born in Nigeria. They worked their butts off learning the sport, trained for a year and raised enough money to buy a sled. It took them a bit to qualify but they did. Of course they did not win a medal but they did something that had never been done before!
A Canadian ski cross country athlete his coach and his wife were arrested for stealing a Humvee and driving drunk. They drove from a bar near the Olympic Stadium back to Athletes Village. The coach was driving and had a blood-alcohol level of 0.16. The level a person is considered impaired is 0.05 in Korea. They were lucky that officials released them. These idiots are lucky they weren’t severely punished.
The USA finished in 4th place overall with 9 golds medals, 8 silver and 6 bronze for a total of 23.Norway took home 38 total medals, Germany 30 and Canada 29. If our figure skaters wouldn’t have fallen apart that number would have been bigger. The female team had their worst Olympic performance since the 1948 games.
The female winner in figure skating was 15-year old Alina Zagitova from Russia who was absolutely amazing. I guess she started skating when she was still in her mother’s womb! 15 and the best in the world … wow!
Canada is known for its dominance in the sports of hockey and curling. They were shut out of all medals in curling, struggled to win bronze in men’s hockey and were defeated by the USA ladies in overtime. That said, they country set an all-time best for total medals with 29 (ten gold).
