THE NIGHTMOVES AWARDS HISTORY
NightMoves Magazine started as an all sports publication in 1986. Paul Allen knew that Tampa Bay was getting ready to explode in many ways. Sports wise the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were the only game in town and they were just starting to play respectable football (The Tampa Bay Rays, Tampa Bay Lightning and South Florida NCAA football all came later). He saw all thousands of transplants from Michigan, Ohio, New York and Pennsylvania and they all were searching for sports news from their home town teams. The internet wasn’t there and that’s when “Sports South Magazine” was born. Paul started selling ads and thought, “Men like sports, what else do men like?” The answer to that question was adult entertainment and once he started adding adult clubs to his sports magazine the transition was amazing. Almost overnight “Sports South” changed into “NightMoves” and became a stand-alone publication in 1988! In 1993 Paul wanted to do something to get the adult industry owners on the same page. At the time they all seemed to dislike each other and competition was the only thing they saw. We all know that the adult community needs to band together and fight for First Amendment rights, zoning laws, surtax charges and other legal battles that the industry seems to always be fighting. The industry is stronger as an united front. The first Awards Show was held in a non-adult nightclub named “Stingers” in Tampa and the weather was absolutely terrible with pouring rain, thunder, lighting and high winds. Paul was upset and ready to cry but … at 6:30pm, despite the weather, limousines started rolling up and people dressed in suits, tuxedos and evening gowns started filling the night club. The show was a huge success and the first time that all the owners of Tampa Bay adult clubs, video stores and lingerie shops were under the same roof celebrating the adult industry! The show was hosted by porn star Kelly O’Dell and super star Ron Jeremy (who has never missed a NightMoves Awards Show). Ten local and two national awards were handed out that evening. The NightMoves Awards are not just another adult awards show … it has a long and prestigious history and is the most unique gathering of adult performers anywhere. Today it’s not just a one night party … it is a four day adult escapade that includes visits to the top adult clubs in Central Florida, a Fan Fest where stars sign autographs, sell merchandise and take photos and the Awards Show itself. NightMoves is the third oldest adult awards show in the world trailing the “industry only” XRCO Show that takes place in Los Angeles and the AVN Awards that are held in Las Vegas. Numerous stars have been a part of the NightMoves Awards and many received their “first ever” award from NightMoves. These include: Jenna Jameson, Tera Patrick, Gina Lynn, Briana Banks, Sunny Lane, Bree Olson, Alexis Texas, Anikka Albrite, Keisha Grey and Chanel Preston (to name a few). NightMoves also gave several movies their first awards including: Pirates I and II, Batman XXX Parody and Spiderman XXX. Wicked Pictures has shot two, full length movies during the NightMoves Awards Weekend (directed by Stormy Daniels) and hundreds of other movies, videos and internet scenes have taken place! The NightMoves Awards were the first to have fans vote for their favorite stars, directors and movies and also the first to use the internet for voting. Many categories that started with NightMoves have been adopted by other award shows. The NightMoves Awards are always cutting edge, trend setting, different, unique and an important part of the adult industry today. They have come a long way since that stormy evening back in 1993!!
